A Day In The Life Of Me

Ramblings

Tuesday I had a test. I tried to study for it, I really did. But my concentration failed me. So I had Katelyn and Elise over Monday night so we could quiz each other. That worked for a while, only cause Elise was there to keep us on track. After Elise left, concentration took a dive. A really low dive. Katelyn and I started shooting each other with dart guns, and the studying officially ended when I tackled her for a dart. :D Good times!

Yesterday I went swimming with Jill, Jessica, and their kids. Chaos reigned, but it was fun. And my back hurts from landing on it while trying to do flips. Sigh. I don't think I'll ever master them.

Right now I'm babysitting, and my 4 little charges (4 rambunctious little boys) are getting hungry. So, I'm going to make them lunch and my afternoon will go insane. :D More good times.

An Wonderful Weekend

Yep, my weekend was pretty great. The greatness started Thursday night when I went walking/running in Morton after class. Friday was my day to sleep in, and I did just that. Then I went to work (ok, so that part of the weekend wasn't so great) and afterward headed over to Eureka high school for Relay for Life. Thanks to all who donated money! After walking/running about 6 miles, and hanging around till about 3 am, I left for home and my bed. Somehow sleeping on the ground with a bunch of people around didn't sound to appealing.

Shelli (once again) woke me up on Saturday morning, so I got up, and went shopping to get my dad a Father's Day/Birthday gift. And yes, I know Father's Day was last Sunday, but my dad wasn't here then, so I didn't bother to get a gift. Katelyn went with me to be my fashion advisor, which she is positive I need. I think I do just fine on my own. But she did help me find a great tie (that my dad really liked), so I guess I can't complain. Last night I stayed home with my family and we went on a long walk. And I did a back flip for the first time in at least 3 years (and I must confess that I hurt today).

Tonight was Schick family night at Phil and Jessica's. It was entertaining. Larry and Jill are visiting, and U. Bill and A. Joan are back from Mexico, so everyone was there. Swimming, volleyball, baseball, and chocolate were some highlights. Andrea and I pretty much stink at volleyball. We had two rules: 1. Safety first. This means that if it looks like someone might go for the ball, don't risk getting hurt by diving for it even if the other person doesn't. 2. The two step rule. If, in order to hit the ball, you have to take more than two steps, don't bother; let someone else get it. So after much teasing and having "feeble" serves and hits (as Jamie would tell us), we gave up. Humor was higher priority than the actual playing of the game. But I think most the humor was aimed at Andrea and I. Oh well.

And that was my weekend, and now I'm going to go bed. Good night!

I'm Bored

Along with being lonely, staying home by yourself also gets boring. Actually, I haven't been to lonely this week, thanks to some great company. Elise, Katelyn, and Jenny have all stayed, and no, sleep has not been a priority. But I am bored right now. The house is clean and the animals are fed. The flowers have not been watered yet, but it's to hot right now.

So, anyone up for more nursing jokes?

~How many nurses does it take to screw in a light bulb?None - They just have a nursing assistant do it.
~ Top 10 Reasons to Become a Nurse
1. Pays better than fast food, though the hours aren't as good.
2. Fashionable shoes & beautiful white uniforms.
3. Needles: It's better to give than to receive.
4. Reassure your patients that all bleeding stops eventually.
5. Expose yourself to rare, exotic, & exciting new diseases.
6. Interesting aromas.
7. Courteous & infallible doctors who always leave clear orders in perfectly legible handwriting.

9. Celebrate the holidays with all your friends, at work.
10. Take comfort that most of your patients survive no matter what you do to them.

Lonely

Well, the family has been gone only a total of 3 hours, and I'm already lonely. Not for them, just for people or noise or something. Somebody come see me!!
I have a feeling it could be a long week. If I start showing up at people's houses at random times, you'll know I couldn't stand being lonely anymore. :D

After they all left, I decided to go to the grocery store. I am totally not used to shopping for one person. By the time I finished going through Kroger, my cart was pretty full. Now I am stocked up on food (including cocoa puff and chocolate milk), as well as lots of soda. And I get to park on the left side of the garage, which has the working automatic door.

While at the grocery store, I got stuff to make an apple pie!! I am so excited to eat it. And...(hehe)... I'm the only here this week, so I can have it all to myself! :D

Things I've learned

This week, I have learned a few new things that I never knew before.

1. Life is like a novel with end torn out.
2. Anything is funny if you stay up to late studying. Who knew that thinking fungi was classified by color could cause people to laugh so hard they cried?
3. It only takes 10 seconds to sweep up 30 feet of fishing line.
4. Bugs move fast. If you're going to sweep them up, you'd better hurry.
5. Baby bunnies are very cute. We have 5 of them
6. The more you stay home by yourself, the less fun it gets.
7. Starbuck's knew what they were doing when they built next to ICC's North campus
8. I have lots of mold spores in my room. That's where I chose to grow my mold for microbiology. My petri dish is gross!
9. It does no good to take naps every day. You're still tired when you wake up.
10. A.C.'s Are the only people who can plan a party while the parents are gone, and the parents will be totally okay with it.
11. The amount of people who have never rollerbladed or who don't like rollerblading is huge! Whats up with these people?
12. My 9 year old brother knows how to grill. I don't even know that!
13.The stains used in lab (such as crystal purple, methalyne blue, ect.) don't just stain microscope slides.
14. Watching lab videos may be boring, but the narrator with a British accent is pretty entertaining.

Kansas...Again

So, this weekend, for the 2nd weekend in a row, I headed out to Kansas. Only this time I went to Bern, and did not leave at 1am. The Washington Bible class was invited to Sabetha, so I decide to tag along. We took this big green bus, and as you can see, it was certainly not easy to miss. The way out got long, despite Jenny, Amy and my attempts to come up with things to talk about. But now I know their greatest fears, what kind of house they want to live in, and all kinds of other random stuff. On Saturday night, we went to a singing, and then I stayed at Jill and Larry's. Sunday was church, and then we boarded our casino bus (as we fondly called it), and drove home. Thank goodness for headphones and cd players that block out the noise of 20 highschoolers when you are trying to study. Did I mention how glad I am that I am not in highschool anymore?

Friday I was kinda bored so I was looking up nursing jokes. Cheesy, I know, but fun none the less. This is one I loved:

You know your a nurse when...
~Discussing dismemberment over a gourmet meal seems perfectly normal to you
~You believe a good tape job will fix anything
~You have the bladder capacity of five people
~You find humor in other people's stupidity
~You have your weekends off planned one year in advance
~You believe that unspeakable evils will befall you if the phrase "wow, it's really quiet" is uttered
~Your diet consists of food that has gone through more processing than most computers
~You believe chocolate is a food group
~You have ever had to leave a patient's room before you begin to laugh uncontrollably
~You think that caffeine should be available in I.V. form
~You refer to vegetables and are not talking about a food group
~Your feet are slightly flatter and tougher than Fred Flintstone's
~You get an almost irresistible urge to stand and wolf your food even in the nicest restaurants
~Your idea of fine dining is anywhere you can sit down to eat
~Your idea of thawing the holiday turkey consists of an IV and warmed saline ... (and if the holiday turkey you usually see has arms instead of wings and is sauced instead basted)...
~You believe that a large part of your daily calorie requirement is provided by Tylenol, Advil, or Excedrin

My weeks

Well, its been a while since I last wrote a new post, so here are some random things that have been going on the past weeks.

~Setting the oven on fire with Jenny while making housewarming cookies. It's every parents nightmare to come home at 10pm to find the smoke alarms going off, the house filled with smoke, and all the fans on and doors open.

~Hanging out at the pool a few days every week and getting burnt

~Leaving for Kansas City at 1 am, (Thanks for letting us hang out till then, Luke) and all the memories that go along with last weekend. (pretty sure I only got 1 1/2 hours of sleep within a span of 40 hours- it made for interesting times)

~Starting summer classes. Its great because I know at least 10 people in that class.

~Bible school 5th grade crafts. If you have never seen 5th graders paint, you should watch them sometime. They use paint so thick, I had to comment that it looks more like they are decorating cookies than painting.
