A Day In The Life Of Me

You know it's one of those day when....

You sit down in class and have this sudden panicky feeling that the teacher is going to get mad at you for not putting on your seat belt.

More Randomness

Our dog died last night...Or maybe it was early this morning. My dad buried her behind the shed in the back yard. I'm kind of sad about it. There will be no more Taffy coming out to meet me with her tail wagging every time I get home, be it morning, noon, or night.

Yesterday I was emptying the dishwasher, and a surprise awaited me. Somehow, a tomato fell into the top rack of the dishwasher, and when it was done running, there lay a perfectly clean, fully cooked tomato for whoever felt like partaking of it.

Yesterday afternoon, while playing "harvest," Evan stuck a piece of corn up his nose. We had a hard time getting it out. When we finally did, he got a good lecture on not putting corn up his nose.

Last night, around 10 pm or so, I went downstairs to take a shower. Imagine my surprise when two steps into the room, I went sliding across the floor. The whole bathroom floor was covered in water, like what would happen if someone took a shower without the shower curtain there. The toilet had overflowed. I wasn't exactly sure what to do, so I went upstairs to ask my brother. He was talking on IM, and wasn't answering my question, so I waited around till he got off, then I talked to Jenny, and I decided that I should clean up the water that was all over the floor. So I got a whole bunch of towels, soaked the water up, and then mopped the floor. That was my excitement for the night!

What did you say?

If I thought my weeks were boring, my weekends provide no more excitement.

Saturday, Amanda and I went to Kate’s to just hang out and be together. It was so great to see Amanda for the first time since Microbiology ended. We were bums; just sat around and ate pizza and talked. A random conversation (if you can even call it conversation) that we all cracked up at:
“I have an ingrown hair on my neck.”
“I have a pimple on my eyebrow.”
     “I’m palpating my veins.”

I actually studied on Saturday night, as well as last night. Yep, we’re talking about 5 ½ hours of studying!

Sunday afternoon we headed over to Gridley for Mark and Laura’s wedding. And no, Katie, I didn’t laugh. Ok, well, maybe a little. After church we went to the Gridley cemetery and tried to figure out who we were related to and how. It ended being pretty entertaining.
My uncle: “Oh, here’s were Great Aunt _______’s grave is. I talked to her in        church today.”
Yeah, that kind of caught me off guard for a second. I think a better choice of words would have been “here’s Great Aunt _____’s headstone.”

And that was about as great as my weekend got. Now it’s Monday. I have a stats test that I’m trying not to shoot myself over, my brother is sick, and I’m babysitting once again. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Kids have way to much energy in the mornings.

Apple Pie

Last night Adam and I co-conspired and made an apple pie. We both think we make a pretty good pie, and we both think our way of making pie is better than the other person’s. Working together didn’t quite work as well as we planned, for an out and out fight on how to make the pie took place. I wanted to follow the directions and dump the half and half mixture over the apples once they were in the crust. Adam wanted to mix the apples with the half and half mixture and then dump it all into the crust. I got my way until he dumped the apples into my mixture.

Once it was all in the crust, Adam decided that we needed more apples cause he likes his pie to have a rounded top. I thought it looked fine. So he put in another apple. But (hehe) I ate half of it.

Pretty much the argument went on the whole time the pie baked. I said it should bake at 450 degrees for 13 minutes. Nope, it should be 425 degrees for 12 minutes. He should turn the oven on. No I should. Fine, if he turned the oven on, I had to turn the temperature down after 12 minutes. No, it’s 13 minutes. And on it went.

All in all, the pie turned out wonderfully, and we sat around eating warm apple pie and vanilla ice cream.

After this debate, Adam and I decided we should have a pie-baking contest. If you want to be a judge for this tasty event, let me know!

I have to agree with Jenny that making pie makes me happy, but I must confess that eating pie makes me even happier.

mmm...hot chocolate

It’s cold in IL today.

Really cold.

So I took a nap, drank a cup of hot chocolate, and now I’m curling up on my bed wrapped in a blanket to study.

I love lazy days.

Randomness

It’s Monday, so I’m going to do a post on some of random thoughts, facts, and questions I’ve had over the past weekend. So....here we go!

-How in the world are kids so energetic in the mornings, no matter how early?
-Is it possible to be able to aim well enough to throw a piece of candy into a tuba?
-Some cousins are mean. I was told to blog about a bruise that one cousin received from     another.
-Some cousins are nice, like the ones that take you to Culvers.
-Is it smart to eat a pork chop and then go on rides? (Don’t worry, we were fine)
-Making random cell phone checks (to make sure your phone is still in your pocket) are great. Did anyone ever think of doing car key checks? Oops! Forgot that one!
-The Pumpkin Festival has no lost and found.
-Parents who get out of bed to drive spare keys to Morton are great!
-Singing by the fire station and singing is a good way to pass time while waiting for parents who drive spare keys to Morton.
-Never clean out your razor with your thumb. The razor will win every time.
-Going back to the nursing home for the first time since quitting was weird.
-I’m getting used to having my friends get married.
-I’m not getting used to having my friends have different last names.
-I love having great talks with my friends. Thanks Kate and Katelyn!
-Singings are great, especially when you have 2 guitars, a mandolin, a harmonica, and a bass.
-How long can I make it into the semester without studying?

Happiness

It's sunny in central Illinois today!!!

Can I steal an idea and eat lunch at a park?

It's amazing how much better your outlook on life gets when you have a sunny day after 5 days of rain.

Nothing

I have nothing to say. Nothing is going on. I need out of Illinois cause all it does is rain here.

It's Monday

It’s Monday. Need I say more? In case anyone forgot what today is, (which is nearly impossible) it’s the 5th anniversary of 9-11. I totally remember that day like it was last week. I remember being scared, and watching TV a lot the week afterwards.

It’s Monday. I have two tests tomorrow that I really don’t feel like studying. I have a headache and a fever. Can I please just go back to bed?

Something that I have really been thinking about lately is motives. Motives drive almost everything we do or say. Lately, I have been challenged by asking myself “why am going here?” or “why am I wearing this?” Sometimes I have a reason, but if I look closer, I have real reason. I don’t know if that makes sense or not. Even good things can have wrong motives. Next time you go to church, ask yourself “why am I really looking forward to going to church? Is it because I have an honest desire to hear God’s word, or more because I want to see my friends?” It’s been really convicting to ask myself those kinds of questions.

I got a letter in the mail today...

And this is how it started:

Dear Heidi,
I am pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into the Methodist College of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program for Spring 2007.

Needless to say, I am on cloud nine right now. It is truly an answer to many prayers, as well as a dream come true. Thanks to everyone who offered me encouragement and assurance while I waited a torturous month and a half for this letter.

Going Visiting

I love visiting. I went to Champaign to visit Jenny. I had a lot of fun driving down there. Just me, a huge bag of jolly ranchers, a blueberry slushy, and an open road.
We had lots of fun. I got to meet Ideal Man, aka, Hot Hermann. He scared me every time I walked into the living room. I'm just not used to seeing a "guy" hanging up on the wall. Jenny and I went to Walmart at 10:30 at night in our pajamas to buy material to make curtains for the kitchen. We made some really cute red and white checked curtains with a few simple materials: stitch witch, an iron, eyelets, and a hammer. Believe it or not, they actually look really cute!

Marshall Heinold had a Bible study Tuesday night and something he said has really stuck with me.

"When God opens a door, go through it. And if God shuts the door, don't kick it down.
Wait for God to open it again."

Confused

Long weekends mess me up. I keep thinking it's Monday, and yesterday I was pretty sure was Sunday, but it wasn't, and today isn't Monday. Can you have a "bad Monday morning" on a Tuesday morning?

My weekend was great. I pretty much did no homework the whole weekend; I totally took the weekend off. Saturday night I went to a supper and singing and then stayed all night at Kristen's. We sat around the table eating pizza till about 1:30 am, while Kristen kept us all very entertained.
Sunday night I went to Kate's to hang out. We watched Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. It was a great movie. I think we were both about ready to cry.
Monday morning I was going to get up early to study, but guess what! I didn't! Surprise there. I slept in and then I went with my family to the Pfaffmann family get-together. We played baseball for about 5 hours straight. Call me out of shape, but I'm really sore today. My team won by a long shot! It was a lot of fun, especially when the "Pink Tornado" was a bat. (and no, that wasn't me).

I have a funny story that happened this morning. Ok, so maybe not funny, but entertaining. It was during my 7:30 am math class. This girl's cell phone starts ringing. She couldn't find it, so it went off for a long time before stopping. About 5 seconds later her phone starts ringing again. This time, as she started rummaging around in her backpack for it, she dumped her cup of coffee all over the guy sitting in front of her. She goes "Oh my word! I am so sorry!" All the while her phone is still ringing. She finally gets it to be quiet and starts to walk out of the room to get some paper towels for the very wet guy. As soon as she gets to the door, her phone starts ringing again. She comes back, turns it off, and leaves. She hadn't been more then 10 seconds when the phone rang again. By this time, the teacher is laughing, the guy in front of her is really annoyed, and the rest of us are trying not to laugh. She came back and her and this guy started cleaning up. After all that excitement, my teacher decided to forget the quiz and let us out of class 1/2 hour early.
